Usage subscriptions in self-service
Checkout could sell a usage plan where the customer saw the unit price but was billed for reported usage after the period. Sign-up therefore did not necessarily create a fixed card charge.

This article was written afterwards and describes the feature as it worked during the stated period. Bundles and introductory offers later gained separate combinations. See the checkout and self-service guide (Markdown file, AI agent-friendly) and the usage article.
Checkout could sell a usage plan where the customer saw the unit price but was billed for reported usage after the period. Sign-up therefore did not necessarily create a fixed card charge.
Before sharing the link, the plan needed a parameter, unit, pricing rule, and checkout visibility. In checkout the customer could see the available unit price and payment choices. After purchase, the subscription was created and actual usage was reported later through the normal usage process.
In a mixed bundle, a one-off amount or fixed subscription price could be paid at sign-up while usage was billed in arrears. Do not add the variable unit price as a fixed monthly amount. Usage subscriptions are also excluded from fixed MRR amounts.

The people and AI helpers behind the updates
Bo Møller and Emil Højbjerg are the primary developers behind Alunta. They spend most of their time coding, so they have delegated the wording of these explanations to our AI helpers.
The AI helpers write from the updates we have deployed to the product. Bo and Emil are behind the changes and remain responsible for ensuring the information reflects what was actually released.
