⚡️ Product update: we have been quiet for a few months, for good reason

A lot has happened in 2026, and we have only just (slightly embarrassingly) got around to writing a product update. Here are the highlights: trial periods, discounts, Stripe (including migration), Billy, an extra payment card in the customer portal and QuickPay.

It is already 10 March before we have sent you an update. That is not because nothing has happened. Quite the opposite.

We have been busy with two things: building what we ourselves needed to use Alunta across our own products, and helping the customers who have started using it. Some have told us very specifically, “If we are going to use Alunta, we need X.”

So we built X.

If you are great and say you want to use Alunta and commit to it, we will also commit to getting you started with what you need, as long as it makes sense for Alunta more broadly. We do not do custom work, but we are happy to give you extra focus if you are ready to get going.

And yes, you do not have to pay until you are happy and satisfied and want to use it. But after that, we would also like to get paid.

Here is what is new.

Stripe connection (and migration from Stripe Billing)

What has changed?

You can now connect Alunta to Stripe as a gateway. And if you already run subscriptions in Stripe, Alunta can move them over.

Who does this affect, and when?

Anyone who currently uses Stripe as a gateway (or Stripe Billing) and wants to continue using Stripe as a gateway, but stop using the Stripe Billing part.

What does this mean in practice?

When you connect Stripe, you log in to your Stripe account, and Alunta picks up and migrates the subscriptions running there: customers, subscription terms, prices, everything we can find. Customers then renew at the same intervals as before. You do not have to do anything manually.

Our reason for focusing on this is simple: Stripe is a great gateway for getting started quickly. But we want to be a more affordable and better alternative to Stripe Billing, especially if you care about clean bookkeeping and entries ending up correctly in your accounting system.

Do you need to do anything now?

Only if you want to migrate from Stripe Billing. Write to me, and we will help you get started with connecting and moving everything over.

Trial periods for subscriptions

What has changed?

When creating a subscription for a customer, you can now start with a trial period and choose its length.

Who does this affect, and when?

Anyone who sells subscriptions and wants to let new customers get started for free first.

What does this mean in practice?

For example, you can set a “2-month trial period”, so the first payment is not due until later (in this example, starting today: created on 10 March → first payment on 10 May). You can also set a default trial period for self-service, so new customers automatically get one when they create a subscription.

Do you need to do anything now?

If you use self-service to sell online, check whether it makes sense to set a default trial period for your subscription types.

Subscription discounts (percentage or fixed amount)

What has changed?

You can now discount subscriptions by a percentage or fixed amount, and choose a period and name.

Who does this affect, and when?

Anyone who works with subscriptions day to day and needs to make an adjustment for a customer without creating hassle.

What does this mean in practice?

Discounts need to be flexible if you want to keep customers happy and avoid unnecessary churn. You can now add a discount to a specific subscription for a set period without making it complicated.

Do you need to do anything now?

If you currently handle discounts by temporarily changing the price or making manual agreements, use the discount feature instead so you can find them again later.

Billy integration

What has changed?

You can now choose Billy as your accounting system in the integrations.

Who does this affect, and when?

Anyone using Billy who has been waiting for it to be available alongside the other accounting systems.

What does this mean in practice?

It is easier to make sure entries end up in the right place when your accounting system is connected. And because Alunta already has an accounting backbone, it is much faster for us to add a new integration.

Do you need to do anything now?

If you use Billy, check the integrations in Alunta and enable it.

An extra payment card in the customer portal (secondary card)

What has changed?

Customers can now add an extra (secondary) payment card to their agreement with you in the customer portal.

Who does this affect, and when?

Anyone selling subscriptions who wants fewer missed payments when a card expires or is replaced.

What does this mean in practice?

This is an often-overlooked way to secure payments: if customers can add an extra card, there is less risk of a missed payment, and less risk of churn because payment was not made. Customers can still download invoices and update details in the portal, and now they can also give themselves a little more protection.

Do you need to do anything now?

If you already use the customer portal, consider asking customers to add an extra card, especially if you often see card errors.

QuickPay (and gateway status)

What has changed?

We now have QuickPay too. That means we currently have three gateways.

Who does this affect, and when?

Anyone who prefers QuickPay or wants an alternative to Stripe.

What does this mean in practice?

We are aiming for a simple starting point: OnPay, QuickPay, Stripe, and MobilePay at some point. We believe that setup removes any barriers to getting started and getting value from Alunta.

Do you need to do anything now?

Only if you specifically want to use QuickPay: choose that gateway in your setup.

What we are looking at now: Leverandørservice and usage-based billing

What has changed?

Nothing released here yet, but it is what we are actively working on.

Who does this affect, and when?

Leverandørservice: several customers have said they need it, and we are making great progress.

Usage-based billing: if you have products where you cover costs on behalf of the customer, such as SMS messages or digital signatures, and need to track usage and bill accordingly.

What does this mean in practice?

These are the next major practical features that will make it easier to run subscriptions without manual calculations and loose ends.

Do you need to do anything now?

If you have a specific workflow that makes Leverandørservice or usage difficult for you, write to me and we will use it as input, as long as it makes sense more broadly.

If you want to get more out of these product updates in your use of Alunta, I am ready to answer personally at oliver@alunta.com.
